Anam Cara Health Collaboration
The 4th Self-care Education Day
A Forum on Pain Management and Transformation
Saturday 25 May 2013 – 10:00-4:00
At Windsor Court in Comox
(Directions below)
About The Forum on Pain Management and Transforming our Experience of Pain:
Pain is a common factor in the human experience, and it is not always physical – it may manifest as mental, emotional or spiritual/existential – and these are often interconnected. Each person responds to pain differently and therefore may benefit from a different approach to transforming their experience.
This is the focus of this 4th Anam Cara Health Collaboration Health Care EduDay, which is taking a different format from the first three. Instead of mini treatments, the EduDay on the 25th of May will take the form of a Forum on Pain Management and how to Transform our Experience of it.
Nine of our Practitioners will be sharing information about and/or tools than can help with managing or transforming our experience of pain.
The programme consists of a morning and an afternoon session of 20 min slots, with at the end of each session a Forum during which most of the Presenters during that session will be available as a group to receive and answer questions from the audience.
Programme:
10:00 – 10:20 – Christina Nienaber-Roberts, MSc, NHPCA, KYT – Introduction to the Anam Cara Health Collaboration Model
10:20 – 10:40 – Dr Shameen Mazaheri, MD – A brief introduction to the bio-psycho-social definition and management of pain – a wholistic perspective from an allopathic practitioner.

How people both assess and process pain differently in labour; how important it is to differentiate between pain (necessary in labour) and suffering (not necessary in labour!); and what can make the difference.
11:50 – 12:20 – Q&A Forum with all morning presenters present for Question and Answers
12:20 – 1:40 – Luck Lunch Break – an opportunity for attendees to sample the lovely restaurants nearby

About Anam Cara:
The Anam Cara Health Collaboration was conceived in February 2012 when four like-resonant health care practitioners gathered for a pot luck to explore possibilities of collaborating to co-create a multidisciplinary team approach to support their clients in a more wholistic way. Out of that watering of a seed a healthy tree evolved and a year later the four had grown to eighty, and every month new leaves are added to the growing, sheltering tree, bringing a powerful new resource to the Comox Valley: a new compassionate health care model.
Anam Cara (Soul Friend in Celtic) practitioners collaborate to co-create with their clients the best possible integrative support for their current situation and their potential growth towards reaching their fullest potential at all levels of being – not only the physical.
This is achieved by referrals and (mainly free) education events, where the public has the opportunity to meet practitioners to establish whether there is resonance – a vitally important factor in the healing process – and to gather information and experience during mini sessions and seminars some of the bewildering array of health care modalities that are available to see which resonates most with you as an individual.
Feedback from past participants has been extremely enthusiastic and a special Anam Cara Health Care EduDay mailing list is growing with those who have committed to that being the first to hear about upcoming Anam Cara events.
Please join us even if you have not reserved a seat!
As of Friday afternoon there is still space available, so if you wish to take advantage of this wonderful information and experience gathering opportunity are invited to come for either the morning or the afternoon session – or the whole day. There will be a lunch break, but lunch is not provided and there are great eateries close by along Anderton Road in Comox.
Donations are Gratefully Accepted and this time will go to CV Hospice Society and the SPCA.
A number of Anam Cara Practitioners have kindly donated Door Prizes for the Draw that will take place at the end of the morning and afternoon session’s Q&A Forum.

Please pre-register, as space is limited. $20. Dress comfortable and bring a journal.
Exploring Sacred Movement
Workshop for Beginners or those who wish to Recap

An opportunity to experience Sacred Movement 2 or 3 times, Reconnecting with your Higher Self to Remember your own Soul Song and move to the rhythm of your own Inner Drum. No previous Sacred Movement experience required and those with experince are also welcome – everyone works at their own level and ability. Even if minimal activity and major relaxation is your level, this retreat has the potential to bring powerful shifts. Be willing to be surprized.
Participants will have the opportunity to experience Sacred Movement a number of times and learn various ways of entering and exiting this deeply meditative state where a tuning in to the Sacred Self takes place spontaneously – also called the Healer Within, Guru Within, Higher Self or by many other names in various traditions.
During this day-long retreat from 10:00-5:00, there will be breaks to journal, share if moved to do so, walk the labyrinth, and/or spend time in nature to help with integration. After the weekend some participants may feel moved to continue exploring this process on their own or to join the beginners classes, the regular practice group or explore diving deeper during a one-on-one with Christina.
Attendance of one of the information sessions is a prerequisite – so that no introduction is required on the day of the workshop. If a group experience is not for you, and you may wish to rather experience a one-on-one with Christina, please visit Consultations. FMI on Sacred Movement please visit that page.
